Avandia Attorneys
Avandia appeared to be an effective drug for people suffering from type 2 diabetes, but it has put people at risk of fatal side effects. Diabetics taking Avandia (rosiglitazone) were looking to improve their quality of life, but the drug manufacturer failed to warn the public about the deadly side effects, including heart attacks and strokes.
Drug manufacturers have a duty to ensure that their products are safe for consumption before being placed on the market. They also must present consumers with accurate warnings about the side effects of their medications, especially when a drug exposes people to potentially fatal events such as stroke or heart attack.
At Simon Eisenberg & Baum, our Avandia attorneys help victims and their families hold the drug manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline, liable for the harm it has negligently caused. Contact us to arrange a free consultation with a skilled defective drug attorney. There are strict time limits for bringing an Avandia lawsuit so it's wise to assess your legal options early.
Rosiglitazone Side Effects Death News
The Journal of the American Medical Association recently published a study linking rosiglitazone to an increased risk of stroke and heart failure. The new findings have cast doubt on the accuracy of the original study conducted by Avandia's manufacturer, GlaxoSmithKline. In GlaxoSmithKline's clinical study, the scientists analyzing the study had financial incentive to "find" favorable results.
Since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first approved Avandia's use by type 2 diabetics in 1999, it has issued several safety alerts warning of health risks associated with rosiglitazone. The FDA pointed to independent studies showing a 30 to 40 percent greater risk of heart attack and heart-related problems in people taking Avandia.
Avandia's serious side effects include:
- Heart attack (myocardial infarction)
- Congestive heart failure (CHF)
- Stroke
- Angina (severe chest pain)
- Severe allergic reaction
